Decide yourself what should happen with the taxes you have to pay
Just paid the provisional taxes. I don’t know about you, but for me paying taxes feels rather unsatisfying. You don’t have any control on what happens with the money you have to pay. You get a bill, and that’s it.
Why isn’t it possible to decide yourself what should happen with your money? One idea is to allow the taxpayer to select the project(s) he wants to support with the taxes he pays. The first step to realize this idea could be that the taxpayer can define the distribution of what he pays, e.g. 30% for education, 30% for public transportation, 40% for social security.
So you would no longer have to help finance things you don’t like (e.g. the army if you are an opponent of it). What do you think about this idea?

I think it’s a good idea. How we would do something like that in practice, however,…
When I was writing an article called “ Open source en softwarepatenten vanuit een ethisch perspectief” (sorry it’s in dutch) I stumbled upon an article called “A new economic system for the information era” written by José Malaquias.
Starting from the fundamental paradigm shift (classic economy vs. information which can be copied etc) he comes to a new system where people sponsor “information-deliverers” with credits they buy with their taxes. Although more aimed towards intellectual property, it’s still very similar to your idea. Check it out!
@Dieter: Thanks for the link to the PDF written by José Malaquias. It is a very interesting read and he presents some really good ideas. I will probably pick up some ideas in future posts.
Unfortunately, I cannot read your article as I don’t understand dutch :|
